FAMILY HISTORY Julius Cezar Meredith 1859-1938, b Pike, AL, d Belleview New Mexico
and John Meredith 1824-1864 b. South Carolina, d Bastrop LA.
According to census records, Julius' father was not counted until after he was 2 years old. What records do show is that his father John Meredith fought in the Civil War as a private infantry in the Confederate Army from 1861-1865 including fighting at the Battle of Malvern Hill, VA. He received a flesh wound and died in 1868. I believe he was buried in a military cemetery in New Orleans. All this to say is that Julius' mother Eliza raised her family by herself most of her marriage. She received a Civil War pension. There were times that Julius was the oldest in the home to do the farming.
Julius' mother Eliza E. (Mathews) Meredith, b 1829 Upson Georgia &d 1904, Bashear, Hopkins County, Texas. When she was 71 she and Julius, age 40, were part of the same household where my grandfather Marion was raised.
Julius' wife was Mattie Ella Thompson, 1867 Dalton, Whitfield, Georgia & d. 1904 Brashear, Hopkins County, Texas.
