Leading up to Father's Day, a revision of a post June, 2014
This was my father's birthday.
All our trips and vacations added up to wonderful memories.
Thanks, Dad.
ABBA FATHER
Truth and Consequences
It was a case of cat meets new puppy and freaks out and bites the hand that fed it. Even though she was up to date on her rabies shot, she had to be quarantined at the animal prison. Her day of redemption arrived, her forgiving family came and set her free. A little money changed hands, her price paid in full. However, as soon as they got home, the pound called. They had forgotten to mention a little detail: the cat had just given birth while in the jail, and a tiny thing was overlooked, left behind in a blanket. Due to their no kitten left behind policy, of course the family rushed back and rescued the wee thing.
God, the perfect Father has rescued us through His Son.
We all deserted Him and walked away.
Some prefer to remain in the enemies' hands. The cage door is open, and they are still sitting there choosing to be lifers. Some take up arms against the One who offered freedom, unfriendly fire. Instead of a parade, there is grief. The angels take down the banners for the one they had hoped to rejoice over. No one is worthy of His redemption, which makes it all the more grievous when the free gift is shunned. The precious blood that was spilled to free them is trampled underfoot, ground into the dirt, and they walk away. It is our choice. Eternity is a long time to be without God the Father.
"If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one's work,
conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things
like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless,
the blood of Christ."
I Peter 1:17-19
"How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve
who has trampled under foot the Son of God,
and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant
by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
'Vengeance is Mine. I will repay.'
And again, 'The Lord will judge His people.'
It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands
of the living God."
Hebrews 10:29-31
Continuing the story of bad kitty.
Remember the one who bit the hand that fed it, landing in the pokey, had a kitten while in the pound found after they let her out from behind bars? Mama and kitten were reunited at last, but it didn't last. Bad kitty refused to mother the poor thing, wouldn't feed it, instead pushed it away through the crack under the door to get rid of it. Boo hiss. Fortunately, my other daughter's cat had kittens three weeks before, so tiny kitten was happily adopted and now lines up to feed alongside the bigger kitties sometimes buried under layers of fur. This mama cat is protective of her new wee charge, so don't even think about picking it up. And they lived happily ever after.
"For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again,
but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons
by which we cry out, 'Abba Father!"
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit
that we are the children of God."
Romans 8:15-16
