"How blessed it is for brothers to dwell together in unity."
Psalm 133:1
"I'm going to go see my brother Max," three year old Addie said on her way to Grandma's. Max is our pug, by the way. Addie has a twin brother and doesn't really need another brother, but there you have it. Max is always excited to see her with plenty of running and leaping and kisses with wild abandon. Her brother Ezra prefers the quiet slug of our old weiner dog Sweetie.
Perhaps this is why Addie considers Max as close as a brother. Who else is so free with their affection? Max even has Grandma beat with his thrill upon seeing them. I must confess that I do not run circles around them as they walk in the door or leap up in the air though I do give kisses, however perhaps not as many as Max tries to sneak in. He is aquiver with ecstatic excitement. Methinks I should show a tad more of such joy when around those I love, though if I tried to emulate the pug's level of happiness I would be put in the looney bin.
Now since I moved into the our son's pool house, tables have turned. I have a sedate Springer Spaniel while Addie and Ezra have a rambunctious pug who is wild to see me when he gets the chance. His name is Jose, the Mighty Gopher Attack Dog! For that reason, I prefer not to share too many kisses with him when he runs with joyous abandon to greet me. In his excitement, he has been known to swallow gophers whole before he puts back on his grinning face as he runs to see me. In fact, he has made some adjustments in his glee to come to Grandma's when he has exhausted his puppy self and just wants to sleep on the warm porch at my feet.
