THOUGHTS

An update on a post from 2020

Have you ever been struck dumb?  Maybe it was not as jaw dropping as the women at the tomb when the angel said, "He is not here.  He is risen," kind of shock.   Yet, sometimes I think we as Christians get stuck on, "He is not here."  We stand in front of the fact of an empty tomb as disbelieving as doubting Thomas.  Did somebody steal God?  Is it illegal for angels to be grave robbers?

Sometimes we want to control Him and put him back where we left Him so we can come visit Him when it is convenient on our schedule.  Yet, "He is not here."  Where did He go?  How did God get out?  Is God out there walking around in the world without our permission, without us knowing it, controlling it?  Is God up to something bigger than our mummy wrapping, spice holding, flower bringing graveside manner?  What is God doing in the world?  Will I see Him?  I guess I'd better tiptoe through my day wondering if God will show up.  I'd better look out for Him, maybe expect Him to interrupt my day, my plans, and just maybe life will be different because He got out of the tomb.

In this current pandemic, we have discovered that we couldn't even keep Jesus confined to a church building.  He somehow got out and showed up everywhere on the internet becoming more popular than ever before.  Fancy that!

On a more unpleasant thought...

Grave robbers.

I've already told you the story when the FBI called my brother to tell him that they had found our father, well parts of him.  The Montrose, Colorado rest home/crematorium had given us his ashes to bury alongside our mother.  However, our sister-in-law thought it odd how the urn was a little clunky when they took it to the funeral home.  It turns out it only held rattling rocks and powdered cement.

Evidently the place was in the side business of selling body parts to uncertified businesses without our permission and likewise without many others' permission who were also duped.  The FBI got involved.  As far as I know, the case is still pending.  As horrific as the news was, we knew our father wasn't there.  He had already gone on to glory land.  Jesus is in the business of empty tombs.  "Ain't no grave gonna hold me down!"
