CHRISTMAS 2019

Selection from 2014...

"Sweet dreams seek thee, mother's baby.
Close thine eyes and rest thy head
As the little baby Jesus
Rested in His manger bed.

Candle light thee, mother's baby,
Candles with their flames of red
As the little stars shone brightly
Down upon His manger bed.

Small songs lull thee, mother's baby,
Drowsy tune and words half-said
As the lowing of the cattle
Lulled Him in His manger bed.

Sweet dreams kiss thee, mother's baby,
Close thine eyes and rest thy head
As the little baby Jesus
Rested in His manger bed.

By my grandmother
Ruby Robinson Wise, 1898-1983

I imagine her singing this song to her six sweet babies.

I am blessed to have the legacy of such a grandmother who loved her God and her children, and great grandchildren so deeply.  In her seventies, Gram would even take the Greyhound from Long Beach, California to spend time with her grandchild in Sacramento before coming up to Weaverville to be with us and her great grandson.  Early one morning I found her standing apologetically in front of our open oven trying to get warm because our wood burning stove could not hold a log that would burn all night.  Such love withstood the cold mountain winters to be with us.  She crossed the distance, endured rough circumstances, all to see the baby boy, giving him her blessing.  Now her great grandson still sleeps with threadbare Big Bear, the one she made for our son.

"And it came about that while they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.  And she gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him a manger, a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn."  Luke 2:7
