HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I wonder how thankful they struggled to feel that first Thanksgiving
since so many of their loved ones and neighbors had perished?
They had survived in spite of all odds against them.
They left behind persecution for their faith
at a great sacrifice only to face woe and fear.
Yet, they sat down with those who had helped them survive,
those who could and would attack them in the future.
"9. In 1739 my brother and I published a volume of 'Hymns and Sacred Poems.'
In many of these we declared our sentiments strongly and explicitly."
"Turn the full stream of nature's tide'
Let all our actions tend
To thee, their source; thy love the guide
Thy glory be the end.
Earth then a scale to heaven shall be;
The creature all shall lead to Thee,
And all we taste be God."
("A Plain Account of Christian Perfection")
As we indulge at our Thanksgiving feast,
may "all we taste be God."
may "all we taste be God."
