"For this is contained in Scripture:
'Behold I lay in Zion a choice stone,
A precious corner stone,
And he who believes in Him
shall not be disappointed."
I Peter 2:5
We are assured that we can establish our lives
on a precious cornerstone. Thus, we will not
be disappointed. How much of life have
we been disappointed in, crushed by,
becoming jaded?
I'll admit that the things I've collected around me collect dust. They will turn to dust. Sometimes they comfort me with memories or by their beauty, but sometimes they crowd me.
These are not the precious thing, the cornerstone of my life, the rock upon which I stand.
If I were to build my life on my accomplishments, it would be a teetering stack of nothings. Even when we do our best, pour out our lives for others, there are those who can do more, who can give more. Even in excellence, there are those excel beyond what I am able. When I am gone, I will only have left a dent, perhaps one crumbling brick built upon the cornerstone. There is only one solid thing in this world that will last, the one whom I believe in, Jesus Christ. His feet may have collected dust as he walked on this earth, but He did not turn to dust in the grave. He arose breaking the power of death and destruction. This is the precious corner stone. He will not disappoint.
