"And coming to Him as to a living stone,
rejected by men,
but choice (chosen) and precious in the sight of God."

I Peter 2:4

This verse will continue in an extended form; however, this  single verse is too good to not isolate and savor, like one bite of a delicious meal.  God has a Son, a beloved Son, one that He gave to the world: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son..."  This Son returned to the Father, "coming to Him. " The world chewed Him up and spit Him out, rejecting Him.  But that does not in any way lesson the love that the Father has for His Son.

God sent Him to be a stone, a living stone, which Peter here defers the name "Rock" that Jesus gave Him, to the true rock upon which He is building His church.  The Jews thought that their temple was the epitome of beauty honoring God.  However, just as Jesus prophesied, it was but dust as the Romans proved when they razed the temple and destroyed Jerusalem 70 years after Jesus lived and died there.  It is only this living stone that can last into eternity.  When the dust settled, He was still standing.

God sees His Son as choice, chosen, and precious.  As I scroll through Facebook, every time I see a picture of someone's newborn  or little one, I usually type in, "precious," because they are.  Every time someone lets me hold their newborn, my first thought is, "how precious!"  How much more is that very emotion in God's eyes, in His sight, that in some eternal sense sees His Son as the holy begotten one, a babe laid in a manger, choice, chosen, precious.  He also sees the cost and can never forget the tortured sacrifice of His Son that proved His true merit as choice, chosen, and precious.  No one has loved so deeply as God.  God is love.
