reserved I heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith
unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time:
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season,
if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations."
I Peter 1:4-6
According to Adam Clarke, our inheritance is Incorruptible. "It has no principles of dissolution because it belongs to the children of God." This breaks the law of atrophy.
Undefiled. "Nothing impure can enter it." Oh, don't you long for such a place!
Fadeth not away. "It cannot wither away, it is always in bloom." We may wither, but our inheritance stays fresh.
Reserved in heaven. "Such a place as this is not to be expected on earth." Put your reservation in now!
Who are kept. "Who are defended as in a fortress or castle...the verb signifies to keep, watch, guard. We are living in a castle guarded by none other than God!
Wherein you rejoice greatly. "But the disciples of Christ may be very happy in their souls, though grievously afflicted in their bodies and in their estates. Those to whom S, Peter wrote rejoiced greatly, danced for joy, while they were grieved, with various trials. " Dance for joy as this is not all there is. Trials and afflictions are inevitable, but they cannot crush joy.
As John Wesley said, "'Ye are in heaviness--Or sorrow, but not in darkness: for they still retained both faith hope, and love: yea, a this very time were rejoicing with joy unspeakable."
My daughter-in-law just reposted a video of the joy when the littles at age four, the younger twins, woke up in a hotel and were told to look out the window. Lo and behold, they were at Disneyland! They had been in the car for a l-o-n-g car ride and were taken in to sleep, not aware of what their tomorrow would bring. Oh, the jumping up and down and squealing with excitement to be at the place called, heaven on earth for children. Yep. That's what God is doing for us. I have a sneaking suspicion that as our Father will smile taking pleasure watching His children's unbridled excitement.
